Maddie Foster, MA, LMFT

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, seeing clients in person in Lafayette and virtually throughout California. As a Bay Area native, I bring not only my professional training but also my lived experience into this work. I don’t believe therapy should feel like sitting across from a blank slate. Instead, I use myself in the room—my humor, my humanness, and the wisdom that comes from walking through my own challenges—to create an authentic relationship where healing can take root.

I work with adults, couples, and families navigating challenges such as childhood trauma, intimacy and attachment struggles, depression, anxiety, substance use, family conflict, and the pain of feeling stuck or disconnected. My approach is grounded in attachment and relational theory, with tools from Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and emotion-focused therapy for couples. These frameworks help us explore the different parts of you, the stories that have shaped you, and the relationships that continue to matter most.

For many of my clients, healing also involves exploring expanded states of consciousness. I offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and psychedelic integrative therapy as part of my practice, weaving these approaches into the larger process of self-understanding and relational healing. These modalities can soften defenses, bring hidden parts of you forward, and create openings for profound insight and transformation—always held in the safety of a supportive therapeutic relationship.

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you—it’s about creating a space that feels safe, real, and deeply human. You deserve to feel seen and supported as you move toward greater balance, connection, and wholeness.

With gratitude,

Equitable Care Statement

I am deeply committed to providing equitable, compassionate care that celebrates the diversity of all cultural backgrounds and identities. In my practice, I strive to create a space where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued, regardless of who they are or where they come from. I approach cultures and identities that are different from my own with humility and curiosity, recognizing that there is always more to learn.
As an ally, I am dedicated to standing in solidarity with marginalized communities, ensuring that my practice reflects the values of inclusivity and respect. I believe that true healing happens when we honor the whole person, and I work to provide care that acknowledges and affirms your unique experience and identity. My goal is to be a source of support as you navigate life’s challenges, and to ensure that you feel empowered, understood, and embraced for who you are.
